The VFX process for the finger scanner shot.
First, we shot a clean plate of the scene without the actor's hand. Then, we took that clean plate and added the live action hand actually using the finger print scanner, which we had created separately. We used a technique called rotoscoping to track the motion of the actor's hand and create a mask that we could use to insert the live action hand.
Once the hand was in place, we needed to set the variants areas for each hand feature that stood out during the rotoscoping process. This involved creating masks for each finger, the palm, and the back of the hand.
Finally, we compiled all of the elements together and composited them into the final shot.
